Britain's Best Beach

Bournemouth's beach is a seven mile bay of gorgeous, soft sand. Very popular in the summer, there's so much of it that you can still find a spot if you're willing to walk a little way. The promenade at the top of the beach holds many cafes and restaurants, so you don't have to stray far to get refreshed.

If you're bringing your brood to Bournemouth, if you travel to Boscombe or Southbourne you'll find they have the most family friendly restaurants.

Bournemouth has traditional seaside pier, with a stunning new zip wire ride and fantastic activities for all ages!

The Oceanarium

The Oceanarium is home to turtles, sharks, and a huge range of exotic fish. The building is across several levels (with wheelchair access) and you have multiple views on the huge central tanks - from above, from windows in to the sides, and from a tunnel running through the tank.

Before visiting, look for leaflets at the tourist information centre or other tourist spots, you may be able to find one which will give you 25% off entry.

Victorian Gardens

Bournemouth has three sets of gardens. The Lower Gardens are just off the beach, they lead to the Central Gardens in the town centre, and those through to the Upper Gardens. Wandering through them is a wonderful way to relax on a hot summer's day. The Gardens are Grade II listed by English Heritage, but still contain many modern facilities such as children's play area, mini-golf, art exhibition space and cafes.

The most noticeable landmark when you're not in the gardens is the tethered balloon, which levitates from the Lower Garden. You can ride in the gondola below the spherical helium balloon, which rises up to 500 feet above the Gardens, giving you magnificent views across Bournemouth and the surrounding area. For a romantic evening, you can take a night time flight and see the city illuminated.

Shops and nightlife

As well as the lovely beach and gardens, Bournemouth boasts a modern shopping area and lots of new cafes, bars and clubs.

Activities within an easy car drive

For small children: Farmer Palmer's Farm Park

A petting farm and activity centre all in one, Farmer Palmer's has friendly goats, cows, sheep, racing pigs, and chinchillas, all ready to meet and greet small children. It also has a wide range of play equipment including slides, ride on and pedal tractors, two bouncy castles, a sand and water play area, and much more.

If you have an active child who's under 8, they can spend many hours burning off their energy at Falmer Palmer's, and meet some nice animals at the same time. There's also a decent cafe with adult and child suitable lunches.

Monkey World

Highly regarded for family visits, Monkey World is home to chimpanzees, Orang-utans, Gibbons, and eight other varieties of primate, all rescued from bad conditions. At Monkey World, you can see the primates enjoying themselves in a relaxed, happy environment, and getting up to the sorts of mischief that make the "Monkey Life" TV series about the centre so popular.
